Maria Price Detherage is an accomplished senior executive advisor, leadership coach, strategist, and organizational development expert with more than 36 years of experience helping leaders and institutions navigate complexity, transformation, and growth across the public and private sectors. Her work has spanned six continents and included advising presidents and heads of state, senior executives, government leaders, mission-driven organizations, global teams, and aspiring leaders operating in dynamic and high-stakes environments.
A retired member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service, Maria served in multiple executive leadership roles during more than two decades of her federal service, including as a USAID Senior Development Diplomat, HHS Executive Director of the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals, USAID Director of the Office of Civil Rights and Diversity, HHS and USAID Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer, and HHS Chief Labor Relations Officer. Most recently, she provided executive-level leadership and strategic oversight for a large international portfolio supporting programs and partnerships across Southern Africa, while also helping guide enterprise-wide management operations for a major global organization. Earlier in her career, she led executive human capital, organizational transformation, civil rights, and workforce strategy initiatives across several large federal agencies.
Maria brings a rare ability to build trust and engage effectively across every level of society, from local communities and frontline teams to senior government officials and national leaders. Having traveled to more than 70 countries and delivered leadership, advisory, coaching, and organizational consulting services in many of these countries, she offers a globally informed perspective that helps organizations navigate diverse cultures, strengthen leadership capacity, build strategic relationships, and drive meaningful, sustainable impact in complex environments.
She has received numerous awards and citations and in 2023, she received The U.S. President’s Rank of Distinguished Executive Award for her “sustained extraordinary accomplishment in management of programs of the United States Government and for leadership exemplifying the highest standards of service to the public, reflecting credit on the career service.”
